Frequently Asked Questions

Are you a firm of solicitors?

No. Expert Family Law is a trading style of Legal Resolution Group C.I.C, a not-for-profit organisation. We are not a firm of solicitors and we do not provide legal advice. We connect you with trusted and regulated family law solicitors, charities and support services who may be able to help with your situation.

How does the referral process work?

Once you submit your enquiry, we review your details and pass them to a suitable solicitor or support organisation within our network. A member of their team will then contact you directly to discuss your case. You are under no obligation to use any firm we introduce you to.

Do you charge for your service?

No. Our referral service is completely free. We also do, however, sometimes receive referral fees from solicitors and professionals in our network. This may be in the form of a one off payment per referral or membership fee which contributes to the upkeep of this website. You can request more information on this by contacting us directly.

All firms are independent, and you should make your own enquiries as to whether they are suitable for your needs.

Can you help me find a solicitor who offers legal aid?

Yes. We have a network of family law solicitors who offer both legal aid and privately funded services. If you may be eligible for legal aid, we will refer your enquiry to a firm that can assess this for you.

What areas of family law can you help with?

We can connect you with professionals who specialise in:

  • Divorce and separation

  • Financial matters (ancillary relief)

  • Domestic abuse and protective orders

  • Child arrangements and parental responsibility

  • Cohabitation issues

  • Civil partnership dissolution

  • Other family law disputes

Do I have to be in a specific location to get help?

No. We work with firms across England and Wales, and many offer remote appointments by phone or video call. You can choose whether you would prefer in-person or remote assistance when submitting your enquiry.

Is my information kept confidential?

Yes. Your details are only shared with a suitable solicitor or organisation within our network for the purpose of responding to your enquiry. We follow strict data protection practices, and you can read more in our Privacy Policy.

How quickly will someone contact me after I submit a form?

Most enquiries are responded to the same day, and usually within a few working hours. If you submit your request outside of office hours, you may be contacted the following working day.

Can I speak to a charity instead of a solicitor?

Yes. If your situation would benefit from additional emotional or practical support, we can connect you with trusted charities within our network. Simply tick the box in the contact form.

What if I’m not sure which area of law my issue falls under?

That’s completely fine. Just provide as much information as you can in the message box. We will ensure your enquiry is directed to the most suitable professional or organisation for your situation.
